Interview with Sheila Applegate, author of Enchanted One

I am honored today to interview clinical therapist and author Sheila Applegate, who is launching her first book “Enchanted One:  The Portal to Love.”  Welcome Sheila!

Question:  Sheila, can you tell me a little about yourself, your book, and the process that prompted you to write it?

Certainly!  But, Heidi, first let me thank you for this opportunity to be a guest on your blog.  I'm grateful and I'm delighted!  Let's see, I am a mother, a daughter, a sister and a friend.  Like everyone else, I am reflection of God on earth.  My passion has always been for the exploration of both Spirituality and Emotions.  I have a Masters Degree in Clinical Social work and began my career as a child and family therapist.  While in this field, I was also exploring and training in Energy Healing and Spirit Communication.  After a while, I felt that the spiritual gifts of energy healing and communication that I had developed were far more effective in helping people than the limitation of traditional therapy.  I felt like I was sitting on my hands.  I had all these tools to help people release their patterns and live in harmony yet I was not able to use them in my work.  So I left the mainstream therapy world and began my own practice as a Spiritual Seer, Healer and Teacher.

My book, Enchanted One weaves together my own personal journey with learning to embrace my emotions and remember my connection to All That Is with messages or guidance from the Divine Feminine.  As I received messages of Guidance from Spirit, I have integrated them into my own life.  The journey to awakening has been such a powerful and profound experience that I want to share it with the world.  I am a teacher by nature; whenever I discover a new insight into joyful living, my first instinct is to want to share it with others.  Enchanted One is my way of helping others  find the same inner peace and passionate joy that I discovered.  I believe that our outer world is a reflection of our inner worlds.  Helping people to embrace true inner peace and live in joy on earth, is the best gift I can offer the world.  I have two incredible children and I want to leave them to live in a peaceful world.

Question:  In my personal and professional experiences, I have noticed a lot of people struggle with loving themselves and embracing their emotions, which has some real health consequences.  Can you share how “Enchanted One” addresses these issues?

Yes!  I believe that in order to live a life of love and joy we must first learn to love ourselves.  All of our relationships are simply mirrored reflections of our own inner journey.  So we draw into our lives partnerships and situations that reflect for us those aspects of ourselves that we need to embrace.  The more we learn to love all aspects of ourselves, the more we see that love reflected in our relationships.  Embracing the full spectrum of our emotions is key to this process.  People often label emotions good or bad.  There is a misunderstanding that peace and joy comes from not experiencing the "bad" emotions such as anger, jealousy, fear.  In truth inner peace comes when we have mastered these emotions by giving ourselves permission to experience them while embraced by divine love.  In Enchanted One I focus on the process of embracing emotions as a gateway to inner peace.  I specifically address how to do this with some of the more difficult emotions I mentioned earlier.

Question: You have a different take on working with the ego than some popular books.  Can you tell me more about that?

Heidi, I am especially grateful that you are asking me about this because I feel that is a very important message to get across.  It is not that the ones who have spoke on Ego in the past were wrong, but I believe that we are now ready for a deeper understanding.

Everything is God!  Separation is an illusion.  The ego, the little “I”, is a natural result of our expanding consciousness that allows us to experience the Earth’s gifts.  As a result, humans began to feel separate from God.  The part of God that we are as souls began to believe that we were separate…we began to fear for our survival, and the ego formed to protect us.  Responding to the emotions of fear and anger was the ego’s job, because in the days of survival fear indicated a threat to our lives.   And so the little ego of ours did well by us.

The ego was created with the primitive instinct to stay "alive" at all costs.  Think about  this, the "ego" as we have come to call it is the primitive instinctual part of us that is focused on survival.

Since the beginning of time or should we say the "creation of time" this part of us has had the sole purpose of keeping us "alive" in the illusion of separateness.  The exploration of the full spectrum of emotions was contingent on the souls perception of individuality and separateness.

The Ego or Primitive self's job was to keep the human race alive long enough to explore and learn.  Consider the stories of people who have had near death experiences.  The majority of them report being consumed by light and love.  So death in a sense is the loss of  our individual awareness and the expansion into oneness.

What happens when we recognize that even the ego…even the Universal Ego…is God?  We pour Love into this part of God, and as we remember we are God, the ego expands into our highest self and we ascend to become masters on Earth…And in this space, anger becomes passion, fear becomes excitement, guilt becomes surrender, greed becomes service, sex becomes creation…and we are whole again, as we have always been.  In this place, we begin to experience the bliss of being Spirit on Earth…we become the sight, scent, voice, taste, and touch of God, and we offer back to All That Is the complete ecstasy of loving God’s creation with completeness.

I would like to share you and your readers this 10 minute guided meditation that will help to transform your ego and support you in  your awakening.

Question:  I think a lot of people are beginning to understand that spirituality is key to the integration process, but they have difficulty with prayer because they don’t feel heard, or can’t surrender.  This is something you talk about in “Enchanted One.”  What advice would you give people who are having these difficulties?

I think the best way to answer this question is to share a short excerpt from Enchanted One, on the topic of prayer and surrender…

"I do not put my feet on the ground in the morning without saying a prayer of surrender.  I surrender my day and everything in it.  If there is something in my day that I am concerned about, I take the time to specifically ask Spirit to assist me in that area.

Then—and this is the key—I trust that it is done.  I trust every decision I make during the day, even if it feels like I made the “wrong turn” on my way to the grocery store.  I trust there is a reason.  I surrender to that knowing and allow myself to be in the moment.  If the day seems to be a struggle and one thing after another seems to be hard, then I stop and check in with myself.  I re-center myself and say a prayer of surrender again, not because my Creator and guides have abandoned me but because I have abandoned them.  I do that more than I would like to admit.

Have you ever asked God for help on something and then, after waiting for what feels like forever, you decide you'd better take some action and solve it on your own?

“Here, God, take this from me.
I don't know what to do and I know that You will guide me...
I trust You to lead me and make this unfold in perfection…..
is this mic on?...
did you forget?...
maybe I'd better handle this one…
not sure You quite get it…
I think You are misunderstanding the severity of this situation…”

Sometimes we surrender, but when it is not taken care of in our time, or in the way we planned, we take it back.  And then we wonder why things are so tangled.  When things feel off balance, check in with yourself.  Ask, “Did I just take this back?  Am I trusting in the Universe to align for my highest good?”  If not, find your way back to your center with prayer, meditation, exercise, or whatever brings you back to your center of peace.  Each time you will remember to return to that place more often, and eventually you will remain in the center of peace—even in the most turbulent and emotional times of your life."

I wonder if you and any of your readers can relate to what I am saying?  I would love to know people's thoughts on this.
